Dear CASID Conference Participants,
We look forward to seeing you in Montreal from June 12-14, 2024. We are writing today with an important update: CASID is moving the conference venue from McGill to UQAM.
The main reason for this change is an ongoing strike at McGill University (AMPL – unionized Law professors have been striking since April and have planned picket lines across McGill campus). In an act of solidarity, and with the support of the Institut d’études internationales de Montréal (IEIM), the CASID Board decided to secure rooms at UQAM. Several other associations have also changed venue for this reason. There are options for further solidarity with the union at McGill and the details of that will come in another email closer to the conference date.
The CASID Board also has concerns for the treatment of those who are at the McGill encampment and for the way the central administration at McGill University has handled this peaceful protest. We will also be sharing information about how we can show our solidarity with those in the encampment in subsequent emails.
The good news is that the CASID conference is still happening on the initial dates and in the same city as planned. CASID participants who have booked rooms at McGill residences are welcome to keep their bookings (it is just a 25 minute walk or 15 minute metro commute from McGill campus).
We don’t anticipate this change causing any disruptions or additional costs for the CASID participants.
We will be writing again soon with additional information including the conference program and with other details. For many of you, the change in venue will be a welcome solution and we appreciate your support. Thank you for your patience as we worked to secure our new conference location at UQAM.
The address for the CASID conference at UQAM is: Pavillon J.-A. De-Sève located at 320 Sainte-Catherine Street East, Montreal (on the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Sanguinet).
The conference will begin on Wednesday, June 12th at 10 am for our welcome remarks and keynote speaker. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
Sincerely,
The CASID Board
